To ensure the profession’s place in health-care reform, psychologists must make it clear to policymakers and the public that psychological services really do help people and that these efforts decrease health-care costs long-term.
This was the message delivered Thursday by clinical psychologist and U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, PhD, (D-Wash.) at APA’s 117th Annual Convention. Throughout his address, Baird emphasized psychology’s role in health-care reform and other ongoing global challenges, including the current economic crisis and the fight against climate change.
