Watch Barnardo’s ‘Break the Cycle’ child abuse advert. This hard-hitting television campaign for Barnardo’s that featured scenes of child abuse and drug taking has been cleared by the Advertising Standards Authority.
The watchdog received a total of 477 complaints about the Bartle Bogle Hegarty-created advertisement with the majority complaining the ad was distressing to watch and likely to cause serious or widespread offence. The controversial advertising campaign for the children’s charity Barnardo’s, which featured graphic images of child abuse, suicide and prostitution, scooped the top prize at the IPA Advertising Effectiveness Awards.
